A Former Sweatshop Worker is Coming to Speak at IU!

Yenny Perez (A former BJ&B worker and current Alta Gracia worker) is speaking around the country about working conditions in the Dominican Republic. BJ&B was a sweatshop that was mainly contracted out by Nike Apparel until it was shut down a few years ago.YennyTour Flier

Last year, following the advice of United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS), Knight’s Apparel re-opened the factory and renamed it Alta Gracia and gave the workers the right to organize and three times the mandated minimum wage!

NO SWEAT! (IU’s USAS affiliate) is hosting her to speak on Monday, November 22nd! Now is your chance to learn about the truth behind globalization and where your clothes come from! There will be a period for questions after the talk – so you can get a first-hand account of what it means to work in a sweatshop!

The event is at the Latino Cultural Center across from the Union!
